Miracles I like to think of miracles as the inconceivable becoming conceivable, when amazing things happen that I never thought were possible. The more I become aware of the possibility of miracles, and the more I am open to them coming into my life, I find miracles present themselves to me all the time. And as I experience them and share them with those around me, I am delighted to hear that others are experiencing miracles too. When I was younger, I remember imagining miracles as huge, grand gestures from God that only happened in ancient times, like the parting of the Red Sea. It never occurred to me that these gifts from the universe could happen in our present time and especially to me. What I discovered is that if I wanted to see miracles in my life, I had to change my perspective about them. And as I began shifting my perspective, the gift of miracles began showing up all around me. Such an amazing gift can come to us in many different ways and show up in all areas of our lives if we are open to seeing them. Last Spring, my friends daughter was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma. During the next few months, the girl, a young mother, underwent the usual treatment of chemotherapy and lots of prayer. As she sat in the doctors office near the end of her treatments, she listened anxiously to the prognosis total remission. Elated, she thanked the doctor for all of his help. He replied, Dont thank me, thank God. The word cancer in itself evokes feelings of fear and dread. Add the words stage four and your thoughts automatically turn to hopelessness and despair. Because of this girls experience, I now have a different perspective about cancer and the possibility of miracles. Recognizing a miracle is one thing, and how to get them to come into your life is another. Miracles happen when youre open to everything and to all possibilities. Allowing for miracles means that you give yourself permission to have wonderful things come into your life. Unfortunately, our limiting beliefs and a thing called doubt prevent us from receiving these gifts. When we cant figure out all the details or come up with a logical strategy and explanation for something, we assume its not possible. Its hard to see the presence of a miracle if you cant allow yourself to imagine it. This is how I perceive the notion of allowing for miracles. God has this enormous, highly sophisticated computer with the most amazing capacity for creating. It can sort out, figure out and dish out everything with the push of a button. All I have to do is open up the funnel at the top of my head and allow all the gifts He wants to send pour in. A little simplistic I know, but this is how I like to imagine receiving miracles. I ask for what I want, believe that it is possible, then get out of my way and let God do all the work. Of course I keep my eyes open and Im on the look out for when the miracles arrive. Here is an example of how this worked for one of my friends who wanted a new car. It wasnt in her budget and she really wasnt sure how she would obtain the money for the purchase. All she knew was that she wanted a new car and trusted that it was possible. She wrote it down as a goal and thought about it periodically. A few months later, there was a knock at her door. There, standing on her porch, in the middle of the day, was this friendly gentleman with the keys to a brand new Honda. She was astonished and puzzled. Later that night her son telephoned her, Happy Birthday, Mom! I hope you like your new car! Like it? She loved it! She thanked her son and then thanked God for small miracles. Miracles are available to all of us, not just the privileged few. If you want to allow for more miracles in your life, simply shift your perspective to one that is open to all possibilities. Permit yourself to receive miracles and then get out of your way and let the Higher Power do the work!
